I have no idea where this song came from in my head. I was just driving home from work, some alt.country/Americana music blaring on the radio, and all of a sudden this song hit me like a truck. If “catchy” is good, then this song is great! The lyrics are angrier and more hostile than I’m entirely comfortable with, but .. songs are like children: they don’t always turn out to be the little angels you’d hoped for, but you generally love ’em anyway. 🙂

Lyrics:
Doin What I’s Doin, by Jack Lambert
Well, she waltzed right in
After bein’ gone for a week
The last time I seen her
She was goin’ off on me
Cryin’ and carrying on
About the things I ain’t done
And the things that I do
Naw, that conversation wasn’t fun
And now she wants to know
What I got to say for myself
So I just took a deep breath
And I said
Hey, baby I been drinkin’ ever since you left
An I been thinking bout the things you said
I heard you when you told me that you just can’t stand
To put up with me the way I am
An I know maybe I could change, (huh) but I’m thinkin’ not
So here’s the deal, let me tell you what
There’s the door right there, go on an see yourself through it
And I’ll get back, to doin’ what I’s doin’
Well that went over
About like you might expect
Her whole body started shakin’
And her face turned red
The veins in her forehead
Started throbin’ and pulsin’
She started flapin’ her hands
And stompin’ her feet, and cussin’
And right about then, I thought
“I better nip this in the butt”
So I looked her right in the eye
And I said “that’s enough!”
Hey, baby I been drinkin’ ever since you left
An I been thinking bout the things you said
I heard you when you told me that you just can’t stand
To put up with me the way I am
Well, maybe I could change, but (huh) I’d rather not
So here’s the deal, let me tell you what
There’s the door right there, you just see yourself through it
And I’ll get back, to doin’ what I’s doin’
Well she stood and she stared
And she fumed and she hissed
And she said in her mad voice
“Well then, I guess this is it”
And as she walked out
Back the way she had came
I picked up my guitar
And I started to sang…
[Chorus]
Love, love, love it! Woot, woot!
